Somehow the lathe grabbed and pulled off part of the handle while Brian was turning it, so it ended up shorter than originally planned. But it's still cool and I'll happily use it!
The first project I hired Brian to create involved making 2 donut stand for Lukas and Hanna's wedding open house, which was held at our Midway home in September 2019. (They were wed in August and had a fabulous wedding reception in Las Vegas ~ and then we had a smaller open house in Midway so that more of the Ridd relatives and college/mission friends could attend once they were all back from the summer break). I had priced out similar donut stands online - even to rent - and nothing was what I was thinking of exactly! Besides this, they were so pricey for "not exactly the right thing!" Brian did a great job on these! He used some of Grandpa Leon's tools from his shop at 3966, as we didn't have many tools in Midway or in Ivins yet. As you can see, the donut holders turned out awesome and held quite a few donuts at one time! Each rod holds 12 donuts, and there are four rods on each donut holder...so together a total of 96 donuts (8 dozen donuts) can be held on th...
Brian's next board was the Heidi. This board is solid birch, with a natural food-safe stain. Its a large square board with a handle. Dimensions: 13" x 13" plus a 4" long handle with rounded edges (handle has a hole plus a leather strap). I love this board! Plus I love its new owner & wish her the happiest of birthdays! PS - I forgot to mention earlier - we stain them all with food-safe wood stain - and mostly with pure mineral oil. I've found a food-safe wax that I love best, and that's the one I use the most.
I've been hoping for a spice rack for our Midway home for a long time! Each time I open a certain cabinet near my stove, I have to prepare for a few spices to tumble out and land on my head - it's a bit overloaded and crowded in there! Prior to this new spice rack, this particular cupboard was a medicine chest as well as a spice cabinet. I put in my request to the carpenter, and after awhile, this happened! We plan to hang this in the laundry room. I think I may ditch the ironing board to make room for it; I'm not super into ironing, and I haven't used this ironing board in quite awhile! (Yay for the steamer!) I'm excited to put this to use! Thanks, babe! You're the best! SPECS:
